One thing that might be being overlooked here is whether or not this ion has a good drop forward. A drop forward will completely change the weight disribution of the marker making it more balanced, tight to the shoulder, provide for faster snap shooting, and possibly eliminate this problem of the gun kicking up. I don't think the gun is moving up from the gun kicking. The weight of the tank just gradually pulls the back end down when you start working the trigger. My brother has an ion and before he got a drop forward on it, it was very back heavy. Regardless of where you put you're air source, either on the gun or in a pack, you are still carrying the same weight just in a different place. At one time I used a remote line but I found that the tank hangin' down my butt and the remote line were to restrictive for my aggressive style of play. Ultimately it is a matter of personal preferance, but before you go remote make sure you've tried a tank setup on the marker with a good drop forward.
