law rockets - faqs or fiction

A little bird was chirping away about law rockets - and let me say I have mixed emotion. I love the idea, but they do take a lot of refs all over the field to implement well - which we dont have.

But player have these things and want to use them.

Yall take a moment and let me hear your thoughts on Law rockets and your good and bad experiences. Ill take the consensus and try and muster a workable plan for TT. Ive got a hunch of what would work well - but I want to hear from you.

If you have no experience playing againt laws - please say so w/ your comments. On paper they are great. Its the implementation thats in question here.

Thanks in advance.

I used one at blanding this past weekend and I agree they do need alot of refs.We were able to use them to kill tanks, choppers, rooms, and even individuals. You had to get the rocket within 10 ft to kill a chopper or groups of people, you can't actually hit the person but get it to land 10ft away or less.Tanks were direct hits only as were rooms.Bunkers have to be hit directly as well.I know at blanding if you hit the wall of a building everyone on that floor that was 10ft or less from the walls were out.So as you can see they do need alot of reffing to get the hits to count.I think for sniper you should use them for tanks, choppers, and buildings only(direct hits on the small buildings should take out the building and larger ones it only destroys the wall). The choppers and tanks will probably have refs nearby anyway as will the bases. The village may prove to be a little more difficult to follow, but if everyone plays honest then it shouldn't matter

Spyderman : Thanks for the input.

My thoughts about implementation are these:

Law rockets:
Law rockets require a extra bit of cooperation and additional sportsmanship by the players. Your cooperation is appreciated. Please make careful note of these guidelines.
  • 52mm Nerf type only - must be powered by co2 or HPA (no hand thrown)
  • No shooting at players or "choppers". (or from choppers)
  • Laws can take out tank/gun ship w/ direct hit only.
  • Laws fired at a building or bunkers and makes a direct hit eliminate all players behind structure w/in 10 ft of blast if and only if a ref is nearby and "sees the shot" - reach them on channel 1 and provide heads up as needed. If there is no ref on site the shot doesnt count. Hint : use your laws where the refs are - not where they arent. -- hint#2 : refs are known to frequent mission objectives!!!

--------------
comments welcome.

*Never Used Them*

How many of these law rockets would be allowed on each team? Seems like it could get real unbalanced if one team makes and brings more than the other team. Also, it might be cool if the winner of a mission was rewarded with a law rocket, that way they would get more points AND effective weapons to use in the next mission. I don't know, just brainstorming... Anyways, I am sure that if the rockets are used, the refs and responsible/honest players can make sure they are effective.

well,at blanding we had a limit to the amout of rockets we could carry. At this event there was 800 people so we were alowed 10 rockets and after you fired it you could not pick it back up.The refs turned the rockets in at the staging area and we would go there after we left the playing field and retrieve our rockets. For this event I think 5 rockets should suffice.

Thumper, I like the Idea above and a combnation of Spyderman's thoughts.
Once a rocket is fired ( have your name on it) the refs should be responsible to pick them up and return it at the end of the game.

Not working or attending this event, but knowing the refes will be overworked anyway, do you really want to put another burden on them?

One the one hand, the refs have to be there to score the kill anyway. But, on the other hand, that's one more thing for the refs to have to do.

I don't mind picking them up and returning them to the player if I have the opportunity. But I don't want anyone getting mad at me if circumstances prevent that from happening.

I don't expect the refs to find all of my rockets and return them to me.Blanding we had14 rockets and came home with 8 so it is nearly impossible to get them all back.I will be more than happy to retrieve my own but then i will have an unlimited amount of ammo.I was just making suggestions to help make it fair to the players.
