Helicopter Insertions..

Yes we will have helicopters.. and functional! use this thread to ask about operations..

leaving base -- note fast rope and plugged markers

as long as you hold on to the rope you are flying.

The mighty Grendel made us a few helicopters for Super 61 & 64 including the and we tested them at Super 61. I think we have 3 or 4.

As I understand the choppers - they are a constrction of PVC pipe around 6 feet long with 6 sections of rope. each chopper holds a pilot and 6 passengers.

to "ride" you hold rope - guns plugged and guns up. and the chopper can not be fired upon.

flying: the players walk, holding the rope. the mission leader can direct the pilot where to go, etc. flight time may be limited.

to get off you "fast rope down" by sliding your hand down a section of rope stepping away from the pipe counting "one one thousand - two one thousand three one thousand" on your way down the rope. At the ropes end, you let go and immediately pull plugs, and you are on the ground, able to fire and be fired upon.

players may get off all at once, or drop off as needed. The chopper does not have to stop to get off. only players on the ground may be fired upon.

to get back on: the pilot must physically sit on the ground, and the passengers grab hold of the pipe and plug their barrels - when the pilot stands up, they are airborn again and may not be fired upon.

we will demonstrate at the safety briefing.

Many missions use chopper insertions, extractions, and recon. I think Grendel may be flying a few missions himself to help things go clean as MANY teams have never seen a chopper mission in scenario ball.

They are a lot of fun, but down right scarey.

Mogs aint got no choppers..

ps: enemy players can NOT walk following the choppers.

choppers may land on roof tops

choppers may or may not be restricted..

(Grendel and I will tune this soon and workout a definitive operational guide)

one thing that i did notice that because of the 5 man min. insertion by heli. not many people were doing this. It was more of a tag and run back to base if you've got 2-3 anway. It would be nice to make is so that during the 1st of the day its all by heli. insertions and then later on when the evac. is comming let that all by by tank/land forces. There should be a way to do that.

helo's - more.

Grendel and I had a dandy little lunch and two things came out re. the helo's.

1) A ref will do the flying - and flights will be time limited. This will help stop the loitering and minimize bird dogging by the enemy troops.

2) G-man is working on an RGP (nerf) launcher that can take down a helicopter. These are official props, and players need not bring their own for this game.

3) a ref may lead a squadron of 3 helo's at once (packing up to 18 men total)

I may be looking for a ref (helo pilot) in the near future.

Tag Along

And while we're on the subject, from a Mog's point of view,,,,

I know of at least one instance where a ranger was playing "tag along" with a helo insertion. I saw him and opened up, as should and was allowed. Everyone but he and I freaked that we would be shooting at each othe in such a manner!!!! It really was kinda fun and I don't think any feelings were hurt, but it did lead to some confusion.

Just in case refs don't have enough to think about,,,,,,,,,

helos at night?

I doubt we will have helos operating at night. It would be too tempting to shoot up while flying.

As for fast and low - helos can not shoot - or be shot at - while flying. It must land in order to shoot or be shot.

Also: I will be tuning the helo proceedure a bit before the game.

there is a tank thread, and our roads do stink for tanks. I recommend anyone who is planning on using a small tank to contact me first and visit the site to check out the roads youself. We can probaly handle 3 small tanks built on Mules/ Golf Carts or smaller - but again contact me first. I would like to see the mogs having some extra abilities in this area.
