Guilty as charged! Sorry guys, but we had orange Chronic paint with us (4F Squad - Line of Fire Paintfields). We called ahead and asked if it was okay and were assured that it was. The majority of our players play a lot of 'tournament' ball and this is a very common paint at LOF. At our field, we allow walk-on paint, but we DO NOT allow red (safety), blue (control color), 'staining' or 'scented' paint. I assure you we will not bring Chronic paint when we return. And we WILL be back. Super 64 was a blast!! I played this field back in 1996/1997 under the "Vanguard" banner at a 24-hr "Raiders of the Lost Ark" game that had a similar size crowd. It's great to play a field that can handle this many players. Thanks to all who were instrumental in preparing/running this game. My hat is off to the ref staff. You guys were on top of things! I took several pics during the game and will be sending a CD of them to Thumper, Camo Jester and PBJunkie for them to share as our old "Splatshots" site is currently down. Thanks again. We look forward to returning and playing with you all again soon.

Sorry- Romeo Charlie is also guilty of the nasty orange goo! Most of us used chronic, because it is a great woodsball paint- shoots well through brush . True, not very wiper friendly, which is not necessarily bad, depending on how you look at it. But definitely sorry if it caused some frustration to the refs- they have enough to worry with! Won't do it again cause we want to come back!

I also used chronic and although it can't be whiped (the prime reason I use it) it does not stain. If you wanted to get it off you had to scrape it off. A credit card, knife, stick, etc. would do the job.

chronic / evil.. & lessons learned

chronic & evil are great paint for tourneys and woodsball - because you have time between games to clean up...

chronic & evil - bad for hot spawn / rapid reinsertions scenarios - because there is no time to clean up well for antiwipe paint. It wouldnt have been too bad if we had more refs than needed, but being short handed and wasting time checking old hits is bad in a lot of ways.

Key lessons I learned:

> More players refs (15 instead of 10)
> Make payer refs more obviously player refs (tag + arm band)
> More hand held chronos (6 instead of 2)
> Radar chronos & dedicated ref at spawn points - at least a 50% sampling
> Field paint only (keeping prices low 35/45) - for numerous reasons.
> Better deal with owner to make sure the staff gets paid. (Passing the tip box covered 20% of what we needed to pay the field refs) (add $3 to event air fee & pass tip jar should work for free entry events)
> Add one chinook helicopter (50 player capacity)
> More field refs (6 more would have been better)
> MASH units need to be ref installed and fixed in place.
> The choppers and spybirds worked better than planned. No changes needed.
> The prop drop for prises worked great. No changes planned
> Fill more stump holes ASAP
> The 6 objective missions were awesome, and the rest of the missions ran great. Im disappointed in the final battle (the exfiltration)
> A 4 to 5 ratio Rangers to Mogs is good. (This is what we used)
> Check with generals more often.
> TriggerTyme as a field plays GREAT with 455 players. It could hold a few more, and 600 would be too many.
> Electronic Markers and Night Play dont mix. (Mech. & pumps only for Night)
> Stopping night play at midnight is a good idea. (This is what we used)
> The Christmas lights at night were great. Make sure they are there for all future games.
> A few more portajohns (I think we had 6 - 8 would have been better)
> Mike Curtis runs all non-mission refs (Del & I)

Hey Toby - thanks yall for coming down and the complements. No biggie about the paint, and it was 100% my fault. No biggie - we just chaulk it up to lessons learned. That orange go gets in the players black webgear and stands out like a fresh hit from across the field even after you wipe it. I know I personally wasted 15 paint checks on old hits like this.

Do you remember who ran the the Raiders of the Lost Ark game? Grendel? Link? Dennis? TW? I want the biggest SC game record, and Raiders is likely the game that Greg at National said topped 492 - (Super 64 = 445 players by my count after all is said and done - without adding magic ref number expanding dust ) -- Grendel, Aerion - Yall know? Link - you here?

Im looking for confirmation on their 492 back in 96/97

Thumper, I'm a "record-keeping freak". Let me do some digging and I should be able to find out. May be first of week before I can tell you though as we're burried here getting ready for Resident Evil 2 Theme Day this Saturday.

Also , I am sure if you ask some of the helicopter pilots, they would say they got birddogged. It would be good to add a demonstration of what 150' is in the safety briefing (e.g. from the chony entrance to the portajohns) to give everyone a feel of what 150' looks like.

I stopped playing night ball after I stepped in three holes in a row and my mask fogged up right before I got in the thick of things, so fewer holes would have been a great plus.

All-in-all a great game which was no more expensive than a day at my local fields (the safe ones anyways).
