As a helo pilot I can say we did our best to stay 300' away. It gets pretty tight when you try to fly behind the base to get to the landing zones (pow camp and the area next to it). What I did was fly right against the tape line to stay as far away from the base as possible.

Do you remember who ran the the Raiders of the Lost Ark game? Grendel? Link? Dennis? TW? I want the biggest SC game record, and Raiders is likely the game that Greg at National said topped 492 - (Super 64 = 445 players by my count after all is said and done - without adding magic ref number expanding dust ) -- Grendel, Aerion - Yall know? Link - you here?

Im looking for confirmation on their 492 back in 96/97
It would not have been T.W. I don't think he was still around in '96. I'm not sure when Link got back into town but I think it was after that. I don't remember when Dennis died, but I think it was about then. Either Dennis or Jimmy would have to be the one to have run it. We should ask Jimmy and Brian about the records.

Key lessons I learned:

> More players refs (15 instead of 10)
> Make payer refs more obviously player refs (tag + arm band)
> More hand held chronos (6 instead of 2)
> Radar chronos & dedicated ref at spawn points - at least a 50% sampling
> Field paint only (keeping prices low 35/45) - for numerous reasons.
> Better deal with owner to make sure the staff gets paid. (Passing the tip box covered 20% of what we needed to pay the field refs) (add $3 to event air fee & pass tip jar should work for free entry events)
> Add one chinook helicopter (50 player capacity)
> More field refs (6 more would have been better)
> MASH units need to be ref installed and fixed in place.
> The choppers and spybirds worked better than planned. No changes needed.
> The prop drop for prises worked great. No changes planned
> Fill more stump holes ASAP
> The 6 objective missions were awesome, and the rest of the missions ran great. Im disappointed in the final battle (the exfiltration)
> A 4 to 5 ratio Rangers to Mogs is good. (This is what we used)
> Check with generals more often.
> TriggerTyme as a field plays GREAT with 455 players. It could hold a few more, and 600 would be too many.
> Electronic Markers and Night Play dont mix. (Mech. & pumps only for Night)
> Stopping night play at midnight is a good idea. (This is what we used)
> The Christmas lights at night were great. Make sure they are there for all future games.
> A few more portajohns (I think we had 6 - 8 would have been better)
> Mike Curtis runs all non-mission refs (Del & I)
I agree with all of this.

We were running 50% spot checks on chronos pretty much all day Sunday. That's when we had the most problems. Probably 33% spot check the rest of the time. Rick especially was really checking CO2 markers all weekend.

Going to be hard to disallow electos at night. Too many people only have electros.

Tip jar ended up producing $.75 per player in tips which ened up at about $23 per ref. 'Nuff said.

Might as well plan on standing down at midnight. Generally too few players left after then to be worth the trouble.

Ben says he starts all his scenarios at 9:00 instead of 8:00 on Sunday. Might be worth considering. Doesn't matter to me either way as I'm an earlybird.

I think you could handle more than 600 players on the field if you set up a semi-permentant objective in the Fort Apache/Ho Chi Min area to spread the field out more. Combine MASH units to save the players long walks.

Field paint makes the refs job so much easier. You know what color you're looking for. However, there was one instance when I had to track down a hot marker that having different colored paint actually helped. But, overall, I think that it's better to have just one paint.

My handheld chronograph also displays rate-of-fire. This was a very useful feature since we were limiting rate-of-fire.

Well, without looking anything up I can tell you that Dennis Day was the M.C. for the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" game. I know I either met Dennis here at this game or when I worked at National Paintball (SC) in 1994-1996.

We had a very good time. Congrats on a job well done. Obviously alot of work went into making this happen.
We were guilty of the orange paint as well. We had four players using draxxus "midnight" with orange fill.
One suggestion: If the Generals want to meet with the teams on their side, couldn't a note be handed out during registration as to the time and place?
I spent alot of time on saturday morning waiting on a meeting that never happened....
It would have been nice to have the meeting. As new scenario players, we were a little confused the first day.

I'm pretty sure...

that Dennis died in '96. Not 100% sure, but I think that was my senior year in HS and I remember having to tell my old man about it, since my dad was Dennis's family doc. I could be wrong and it might have been '97 when I was in my first year of college but i know it wasn't after '97, nor before sping '95.

I'll do some death records investigation and see if I can find it. If anyone knows Dennis's middle initial or birthdate, that would help a ton.

Since it seems it may be a bit hard to check with Dennis, we will let the record stand at 492 w/ the Raiders of the last Arc.

That puts Super 64 at 445 in second place.--- and if it werent for the 100 no-shows we would have had it,..... Maybe Next Year
