Look for off-road AVT type of liability insurance. That's what we have for our golf-cart based tank thru my local Nationwide agent (who handles my house insurance). $63/year for 300K coverage.

Progressive (Auto Insurance - Car Insurance Quotes from Progressive. Motorcycle, Boat and RV Insurance.) offered basically the same coverage for about $90/year. You can get a quote online.

Several producers are fine with this level of insurance, including MXS, Waynes, Viper, and Thunder (First Strike).

Ladies and gentlemen:

I just purchased a policy for the Warthog from Progressive. The cost is $75.00 per year. I told them it was an ATV that had been modified to use as a paintball tank. The policy is issued under the motorcycle category, specifically as an atv. All I had to provide was the VIN of the machine and proof of ownership. They had no problem insuring it for use as a paintball tank.

Call them back and ask if it still covers you at a public event...

For example you have car coverage, yet if you try to make a claim against it for running it at a track or a drift event... It will cancel your policy.

Bobio - Did you already have other policies with Progressive? I've found insurance companies will not sign you up for additional policies unless you use them for your automotive needs.

Also please provide a phone number so that the rest of us can contact them. Bob, I thought you used to work for an insurance company or was that a lawyer?

The policy is for off-road use, specifically paintball games. Doesn't cover parades and such. I spoke with the agent at length about the machine being converted and used as a tank. She would periodically call in a supervisor to get clarifications, but finally wrote the policy.

Progressive will issue the policy as a stand-alone policy. I also contacted Liberty Mutual. They offered the same coverage but you had to already have some other policy, home owner's or auto to get the coverage.

I just used the 1-800 number or just start at progressive.com.
