This one doesn't make any sense to me. Why have someone walk with the tank?

I hope this is not too much of hijack, but the field I play and generally ref requires walkers for a few reasons.
The walkers can let the tank know if a Nerf hit them to stop. Some DEMO players have extreme ranges and Nerfs at those ranges do not make the noticeable “thump” that a close range shot makes. I have seen tanks continue to move on tight trails as players start to come out of the wood work because they saw a Nerf hit. They players knew the Tank was out… Too many times players use the Tanks as mobile bunkers. When Tank A sees Tank B or a DEMO, Tank A may decide to use reverse. A Walker can enforce the 10/20 rule. Walkers help the drivers navigate obstacles like creek crossings. Walkers help the drivers back into blind spots. Larger Tanks may need to make three points turns. Granted, some tanks have more visibility and are more maneuverable others, but it’s much easier for a field to say all Tanks shall have a Walker. |

A walker's ok. But you just have to switch out consistently. Saves on nerfs too. and
if your walker can't keep..... up...... you're not going walking speed.

but like drewcif said... it may be sneaky, but if it hit me it'd probably break before i do. i am a firm beleiver in the idea that people should be responsible for their own actions regardless... tanks should be allowed... kid gets run over... next time raise faster/smarter kids... i hate the "i'll sue you" mentality in this nation... my own grandmother is sueing wal mart because she slipped on a wet floor and injured her knee. i had this discussion with her and my family and i do not condone.. i love my grandmother, but if she can't be aware of her surroundings, and adapt accordingly- then hey- time to buy a new knee... out of pocket. it isn't walmart's damn fault she wasn't paying attention you know? so what there was no wet floor sign... pay damn attention better. people shouldn't be obligated to babysit the entire human race when they run a business. business owners should not be at the mercy of the THREAT of lawsuit... its total bullshit.

For all the reasons blue max put out. A ground guide will slow the tank down and spot hazards.

Tanks need ground guides
Referee Ground guides are the single best safety device for tanks.I like them because it is sometimes difficult to find a ref to watch me turn a tank into a flaming pile of twisted metal limping off the field of play.

The ground guides are important. Some fields require that you have a ref AND a tank walker, which I think is an even better idea. I know at Blanding that we had a lot of trouble getting enemy tanks to call out. I had to hit several tanks multiple times before they would call out. Either the tank walker couldn't see the hit or they were ignoring it. On more than one occasion, refs close to our tank had to run over to an enemy tank and inform them that they were out because their own walker wouldn't call them. This stunned me. Insurance hasn't been too much of an issue with us. Initially finding it was tough, but now that we have it its very easy to get at the games we've been going to. As for the paying $100 to bring the tank...most 24 hour events charge either $45 or $50 for registration, and upwards of $50 for paint by the case. The driver is always comped into the game, and we receive a free case of paint for me to use in the turret guns, so the two of us simply split insurance and call it even. At CDP's field, the entire tank crew is comped in for us. Even if we were paying insurance, we'd be coming out ahead.
