A-5 problem!!!!!!

I just got my new A-5 today and have put about 500 paintballs through just testing it out....after 200 rounds for some reason my 20oz tank was empty(supposedly was full) so after refilling I start back learning the response trigger and get a feel for the flatline....and after 10 balls i cant hit a target the size of a car!!!!!the balls fly out like bats out of hell ......i could almost hit someone 10 feet to the side of me.....I have the velocity needle all the way in...about 100 balls or so it calmed down a bit but Im still all over the place..........someone with a little A-5 knowledge Ide like to hear from you!!!!!!! thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! josh ps i will be back from work around 10 tonight and Ill track the replys then....thanks for your help

Sounds to me like the valve in your power tube is acting up. That would explain the excess gas usage and the wild paintball flight. You would probably chrono in the upper 300s. Its probably settling down after a hundred shots, because the tank is getting very cold and reducing the pressure.

I don't have a lot of time atm, but when I get home I'll post a more detailed diagnosis and solution. Naturally, this is only a GUESS and I do not claim to be the god of A-5 repair.

Here is the A-5 schematic if you don't have it. The gas internals are in the lower left hand box. If you don't have much airsmithing experience, I would definitely wait for more instructions before playing around.

Angry What?

Man A-5's usualy eat Co2 because Co2 is what makes the Cyclone feed system work but an empty 20oz after 200 rounds? were did you get it filled? Ace hard Ware is a bad place because after about 300 rounds threw Orion my tank was empty.

It's clear from his super high velocities that the problem wasn't just a short CO2 fill.

Um.. I also think it's possible that you are getting liquid CO2 into your marker. This would lead to the pressure in the gun jumping into the 1000+ psi range instead of being 600-900. How is your marker setup? Are you attaching the CO2 tank under the pistol grip or are you using a remote line?

the cyclone uses co2 that is left over from the shot before it is vented. it is my understanding that all the co2 used by the cyclone has first done its magic to make the gun fire.

That is correct, the cyclone and response trigger both run off of blow back. Check to see if your tombstone has any cracks in it or the o-ring is sealing. As Zen stated you may need to invest in a remote line or expansion chamber because of the flow rate the response trigger is demanding on the CO2.

YES the rmote line actually helps to act as an expansion chamber, well at least protects from liquid getting into the marker. Also for a F/L, the velocity needs to be more in the 260 range for better 'backspin perfomance". Too high and you get the knuckleball effect you described. And listen to Zen, as I believe his analysis is right on the money that your R/T and bottle combination causing spikes and liquid intrusion.......

If your issues seems to be resolved, I would guess the problem was a sticking valve in the power tube that is now "broken in" and working properly. If not, post away!
