Tippmann A-5/98 upgrades

I have another noob question for you tippmann pros.

Will the upgrades for a tippmann A-5 fit/work on a tippmann custom 98??
And is the A-5 that much better than a custom 98??

I mean like alot of the spider upgrades will work on many models of spiders. I didn't know if its the same for tippmann aswell.

Reason for this question is I have managed to talk a friend into getting back into paintballing with me. He is wanting to get a newer gun and really likes the tippmann A-5 but does not have the money to spend on it. So it got me thinking about the upgrades for them.

Sorry for the seemingly endless amounts of questions. As always thanks for the help.

there are barrel adapter for both of the different threaded markers for each one.

most of the 98 or A5 upgrades do not work on the other but some do.

So the barrel Threads are even different. What about the cyclone feed system. will it work on both??
And what makes the A-5 different from the 98 performance wise?

You can actually put the cyclone feeding system on either the difference is pretty much what you see. the a5 has a verticle asa.

-the 98 w/ a flatline takes over the mounting rail at the top of the gun. The A5 does not.

-both have extensive upgrading options.

-Both have pretty much the same upgrading options except the A5 can be taken apart without any tools.

the cyclone is built into the a-5. You can not put it on a 98. (unless you gotst some funky technology)

An a-5 does not accept 98 custom parts, and the converse

Well would you guys say the A-5 is worth the extra money over the 98?
I dont know anyone to let me and friend try out an A-5. I we be trying a 98 though this weekend. If the a-5 is worth the extra money I'll tell my friend to wait and save money and just play with his older guns right now. ( tippmann sl68 pump and pmi 3 ).

I'll hunt for the picture of the 98 with the cyclone feeding system.

-I promise it is possible!

If he already owns a PMI-3 and an SL-68II I would recommend that he play with those a few times OR rent a marker (almost assuredly a Custom 98) from his local field when he plays. Incidently, if he continues playing he should probably hold onto that SL-68II in case he ever has a fancy to be a pump player.

As for the A-5 vs. the Custom 98, it should be noted that a Custom 98 comes with a not totally useless barrel, whereas the A-5's stock barrel is absolutely useless. Even a cheap ($40 range) after market barrel should significantly improve performance, so be sure to factor that in the price. The A-5 is not significantly more reliable OR more accurate than the Custom 98. It's primary advantage is that it has a wider range of performance upgrades and has a higher innate rate of fire. For a player that isn't using a response trigger/electic trigger there is probably little difference between the two markers. It should be noted that the A-5 is a LOT easier to field strip and clean. Also, it is far, far less likely to chop paint, as the cyclone feeder is probably the most reliable feed mechanism in paintball.
