August CFOA event report

The day started out as a friend and I drove to the event fairly early in the morning. I would like to thank the morning crew at the Red Bank, SC Burger King for being absolutley intolerable and slowing down our trip.

Eventually, we ended up 3 miles from Duncan, South Carolina for the August Carolina Field Owners Associating event at Upstate Paintball (formally The Alamo) and home base for the infamous team XSF.

The competition was hot and heavy. The prelims went smooth and the finals started around 2:30 pm. XSF finished a top the Am. Division after an amazing final game where a player dove under the center 50, grabbing the flag and shooting a player out. The Alamo team placed 1st in the Novice Division. The day before, Ultimate Kidz took top honor in the Rookie division.

Many vendors including TMC, PB Central, Paintball Kingdom, and National Paintball Supply were there in force. I was a bit dissapointed with TMC's crew as I think they could have been a bit more fair with their service and pricing.

Notable points of the day:

Pro Player Eric Dearman of the Philadelphia Americans slipped in and played with DK. He led the team to the finals only to be eliminated off the break and watch his team suffer defeat in a crucial game. DK ended up taking 3rd place in the Amateur Division.

Josh Silverman, world renowned paintball photographer was on hand as always. He was nice enough to speak with me and offered assistance in taking photos of the playing field. (He also happens to be one of my paintball idols)

XSF front man Justin dove for the 50 in the final game, slid under the center 50 and grabbed the flag and shot an opposing player. It was a spectacular day of play and it will be one that I will remember for a long time.
