CFOA Limiting Paint that can be used for '08 season
Hey guys first off I would like for everyone to know that we understand your concerns, we have them as well. I wish there was a way to know what the right choices are but we don’t. I can promise you that we have spent hours upon hours talking to different store owners, field owners, distributors and manufacturers to help us in making good decisions for the league.
I would like to offer some facts and some of our thoughts that are behind our consideration of adopting a different rule in regards to the paint that can be used at the events. - This rule is not an “Event Paint Only” rule, but more of a rule that merely states that you can only use a brand of paint that is made by one of the league supporting manufacturers - From the response we have received from the paint companies, it appears as only a small amount of teams would be affected if the rest of the companies do not support the league. - We will help any team this rule negatively affects find a new home from a store/field that does buy from one of those companies or from one of those companies themselves. - This rule has nothing to do with the CFOA selling paint. We do however feel it is important to have paint available for you at the event. We believe the league would not exist if you did not support your local stores and fields. - It is ok for you to want to purchase products from your favorite store/field that are made from a company that supports the tournaments that you want to play in. - The notice of a rule like this is short; we know and wish this process could have been quicker. We understand these companies have to choose wisely what to do with their advertising budget and that takes time. - We would not be considering this rule if there had not been support from more than half of the paint companies. I know everyone would not fit into this mold but think for a moment and see if it makes sense. You are a paintball player and purchase paint to play in a tournament. You purchase the paint from a store/field that you support and that supports you. The store purchases the paint from a company that supports the league that you play in. The league has money to pay you when you win. How does this NOT seem like a good idea? As of now we have a verbal commitment to sponsor the league if we move to this rule from the following paint companies; Draxxus, KEE Action Sports, XO Industries and Severe Paintball. We wanted to wait for an affirmative yes or no from Nelson and Zap before listing the supporting companies, but feel that we owe it to the teams to get this information out as quickly as possible. Larry

Force distributors to pony up money to sponsor the league, then they will be guaranteed paint sales because it is a sponsored team or buy it from a sponsor only event. I have sponsored a team to do these events before and since my paint supplier isn't on the list this team has to use a different brand than they are used to. I see big implications here.

You have to remember, CFOA Went to CASH prizes this year. That money has to come from somewhere. If Draxxus were to give say 5,000.00 cash for their paint to be able to be shot at an event. Is it fair for nelson to pull a truck up there and sale paint in a trailer right next to the draxxus truck and nelson paid nothing? They are protecting the event sponsors.

It would surprise me if Draxxus pays $5000 just for their paint to be able to shot at the event. I can't see were there would be a return on that amount of money. My point is that if teams pay an entry fee to play and sponsors pay to just have their paint shot, it seems a little bit like extortion to me. This is just my opinion though.

5000.00 was a figure I threw out there. Its not an exact number, I have no idea what they would actually pay for that right to sell paint.
