The refs are the exact opposite of your "very fair conclusion." I usually come home with 75+ welts on me after a 3 day NPPL event, and it's because I'm not afraid of taking 3-4 hits as I go to check or pull a player. All of the other refs are in the same boat as well, with maybe a SMALL handfull as the exception.
If somebody has a pink/orange gun and it is hit with a pink/orange color, then it makes an already potentially confusing situation even more confusing. At times it is hard enough trying to determine bunker rub from a hit, and you want to throw this into the mix?
Everybody on the rules committee has been playing tournament paintball longer than most people have been playing paintball, period. They are wiser and have a better grasp of the bigger picture, so trust me on this, you can trust their decisions to be the right decisions.
