NPPL Tampa Paintball Open 2006 - XSV Wins!
The NPPL Tampa event, at Raymond James Stadium, home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is over. The Quarter finals narrowed down to four teams, XSV, Ironmen, Dynasty, and the All Americans.
But once again, 1st place came down to yet another XSV v. Dynasty final with XSV taking down Dynasty with back to back wins. Pro 1st - XSV Semi Pro 1st - A Team D1 1st - SD Aftermath D2 1st - Hogans Alley D3 1st - Never Scores Schedule Sunday The Ironmen faced off agains the All Americans for 3rd and 4th place, with the Men edging past of the All As in the first game, but the Americans can back to win the next two in a row and take home 3rd. In Semi Pro, A Team grabbed 1st place for their second event in a row. Beating Dynasty Dynamics in their first game, tying in their second and winning the 3rd. San Diego Aftermath continues their domination of D1 in Tampa with yet another 1st place victory. Voltage put up a good fight, but in the end, SD Aftermath won on bodies. In D2, Hogans Alley took the top in just 2 games from Ballistic, and D3 Team Never grabbed first place. Saturday We're heading into Sunday and once again the possibility for another Dynasty v. XSV final is upon us. Despite how many great players Dynasty loses, the team is still making the cut. Avalanche have really picked things up and are playing some great paintball thanks to the addition of Danny Tiljack. They've made the cut and will be playing on Sunday. Here are the rest of the pro teams that qualified: 1. San Diego Dynasty 2. 0akland Empire 3. Pittsburgh All Americans 4. St. Louis Avalanche 5. Ironmen 6. Sacramento XSV 7. New York NRG 8. Stockholm Joy Division One again, Dynasty has proved they are still one of the best teams in the world, as the move into the Quarter finals ranked first, dropping only 1 game out of 8. XSV has 2 teams advancing in the quarters finals, as well. After a rocky start in Huntington Beach, the Ironmen have stepped up and made it to Sunday as well. They go into the same quarter finals bracket as Dynasty, Avalanche, and Joy Division, so we have another Dynasty v. Ironmen match-up to look forward to. In Huntington Beach, Dynasty triumphed over the Ironmen thanks to some great play by Danny Tiljack. In Semi Pro, Miami Raiders and A Team are still dominating, followed closely by Dynasty Dynamics. The race for top ranking in semi pro is especially important as it determines who will move on to the pro brackets next year. In D2, Tremor is really standing out as a team that's playing well. These guys are led by Karen and Chris Clark (who has Parkinson's) and have advanced to Sunday in both Huntington Beach and now Tampa in the team's first season in the NPPL. Friday The event is setup pretty similarly to last year (if it's not broke, don't fix it) although there are a few less vendors. The Stadium is in a great location, easily accessible by spectators, with plenty of hotels and restaurants nearby. Turn out in Tampa is less than the NPPL's main event, Huntington Beach, but there are still 200 teams here, making this a huge event by any means. Pro games are scheduled to start on Saturday, but the rest of the divisional games are already underway. Heading into Tampa, XSV is ranked first, with Dynasty right behind in 2nd place, followed by XSV again (NRG) in 3rd place. Semi-Pro games started today with the Miami (Docs) Raiders dominating in all of their games. Dynasty Dynamics and A Team are right behind, but each of the semi pro teams still have 4 more games to play. D1 is an even tighter division with top teams like Voltage, San Diego Aftermath, Xfactor, and HK neck and neck so far. With the new pro teams getting moved up last year, things have really opened up in the lower division as other teams stepped up to semi pro in the hopes of getting a pro spot next year. All eyes are still on the pro division tomorrow, when the games will begin. Questions abound. Will XSV keep their top spot, or will Dynasty be able to reclaim first place inspite of losing both Oliver and now Danny Tiljack. Dynasty has an allstar roster no doubt, but several star players on the team are still recovering from injuries. paintballstar.com
