I'm not a real big fan of speedball, but I find it interesting at times. Had I started in paintball as a teenager, I probably would have loved it. BUT....
I have seen, I believe at least 3 times, some big tournament, which I believe was taped & then shown on ESPN. No doubt the majority of PBJunkie's with ESPN have seen the same tape. I remember Dynasty, Joy from Sweden and all the big name teams being in this tournament.
Ollie was still with his old team at the time (Dynasty?). I had heard of Ollie but I was a skeptic, because as a general sports fan, I expect more hype than real talent these days. For example, think of all of the "super great quarterbacks" in the NFL that, in reality, had all freakin day to make the pass. And perhaps he was past his prime for all I know. Anyway so I watch this thing & not having a trained eye for speedball, about the 2nd or 3rd time thru, I notice that Ollie is doing stuff no one else is shown doing. It was obvious that he was quick with his mind & wiling to try anything. it was also obvious that he would willingly get himself shot out if it meant getting 2-3 others first. No one else was doing the kind of run thrus he was doing. But it's a team sport, so you gotta figure his team is making these run thrus possible to some degree. Still, I'd have to say he stood out above everybody else.
Schooling Ollie is like beating Minnesota Fats in Pool back in the day--you might act cool--like it's no big deal--in front of the crowd, but when you get among your friends, oh yeah, the talk will begin.
