GreatZen's Tarawa Videos
Okay guys, I finally quit putting off moving my video from tape to my computer from Tarawa at Paintball Charleston. Out of 150 minutes of video, I think I got about 15 minutes worth watching.
I'm gonna let them upload overnight (thanks junkie for the hosting!!) and tomorrow I'll post up the links. In the meantime, there is one video that at least I thought was pretty funny. Cable Stuck Background: I was running across a road that the enemy had pinned down pretty well when the cable for my helmet cam got stuck on some branches. While I try to untangle the mess, I get torched by the bad guys. Complete with paint on the camera! CableStuck.WMV (17mB) Storming the Castle Background: This happened some time pretty early on Day 1, sometime around noon I think but I could be off by as much as an hour. The Japs (not the JAPs) had been holding the village and the castle for the entire day. Through the efforts of a strong push into the village by infantry and some really good work by the Blackheart and SC Roadkill tanks we secured the village. Section 8 was out on the wing of this unplanned assault, and we secured the castle. The final part of the video happens after we had been trading fire with the castle defenders for about 5 minutes and whittling them down. Although I'm not positive, I think the last of the village resistance was taken out somewhere about 20-40 seconds into the video. It's unclear who actually got the bulk of the last 5 castle defenders, but I think the village attackers got 4 of them. It's possible I got all of them, but I'm pretty sure it was only 1. TakingtheCastle.WMV (39.2mB) Ambush Background: This was Section 8's first mission to go hold Betio. About 30 seconds before this video, Ross had smoked the two bad guy tanks without them firing a shot. About 30 infantry then started up the road. I was about 60 yards ahead of our lines for recon and paired up with a friendly that I had just found sitting out there. Ambush.WMV (36mB) Postscript: I think I actually got him with the first shot. He was wearing something like a towel under his goggle strap and it was dangling over his neck and shoulders. Apparently, he was hit and didn't know it and then took both of us out. Other: I love the radio chatter! Beach Assault Background: This was the conclusion of the assault on the Normandy Beachhead that was part of the first part of the final battle. Before this happened, we secured the power line road against heavy resistance, beat the heck out of the guys on the mounds portion of the field, and killed the enemy general and his medic. I forgot to record that so it picks up here. It is relatively long, and does not actually contain a great deal of action. That is to say there was a lot of action, but not a lot of it is apparent in the video. It does have a lot of people in it plus spyderman needing a medic! Some of you who were there can see yourselves and go, "hey! that's me!" Enjoy. StormingtheBeach.WMV (169mB) Satchels on a tank Background: This vid came after the storming of the beach as part of the final battle (which turned out to be Final Battle Part I). It's pretty self-explanatory. I'm pretty sure steers is in this, and I think another Section 8 member was the one right down near the tank, but I don't remember who it was. Satchels.WMV (27mB) Tank Gets Eliminated Background: This happened sometime during Sunday morning. The US side was holding the castle and the Japs kept pouring tanks down the road and blowing up the front wall of the castle. Finally, that darned electric golf cart tank actually snuck up on me. *sigh* Anyway, while I was trying to let the tank pass it simultaneously got grenaded and immobilized, and popped in the front by a LAW. Tank.WMV (69mb) This one's for Drew Background: The Japanese team had a firm lock on the village and we were unable to push them back. Plenty of people were getting eliminated on both sides of the battle, but both sides were also steadily reinforcing. I snuck through the enemy lines and into the woods on the Japanese side of castle and settled in to massacre the unsuspecting troops who were lazily ambling up to the front lines. Unfortunately, there is smeared paint on the top of the lens, the sun is shining on the camera, and it's in the woods anyway. I think I got between 15-20 guys on this run and it was probably my best work of the whole scenario-- too bad I could have shot it in the woods by myself. :( There are occasional flitting shadows to be seen, and by the end of the vid there were probably 20 enemy. Anyway, I wouldn't have posted it, but if I don't drew will think I'm a wuss. =p DeepInEnemyLines.WMV (49mB) Postscript: When I walked back through village after getting eliminated, it was full of US players bored out of their minds at the lack of action. You can see some of the last remnants of the village defenders walking back to their base early on in the vid and later in the vid you can barely make out another group of 3-4 that went down the castle road.
