    Skill is always preferred.....

The marker is also a good part of the pie.....But it's a marker that does what you want, when you want it....so skill also includes you figuring out what works best for you. No it doesn't have to be a wiz-bang space shooter with a price tag of a used car, but what feels right and is second nature to you.

Taking a tangent on this point for a moment - I have an autococker I keep under lock and key (haven't needed to break it out since Gettysburg 2006) and I normally play pump.

When I play semi for a few games, I start to use my gun for cover - shooting instead of maneuvering - being bait instead of looking for bait to use - shooting more than I should because I might get one - what I call playing stupid. It dumbs down my game, alot. and Ive had this conversation with a number of experienced players who have similar experiences. (but not all - some really do stink playing pump - have no patience, cant aim for poop, slow, no sneaky-sneaky, etc)

sonny lopez explains the bait thing (kind of) here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZalOEOpsfas

Also: it is common to go to an event as see a number of players sidelined because their gear was designed to be light and operate at a high rate of fire - and when the game starts, they are still on the sidelines trying to fix something. There is a lot to be said for owning gear designed with reliability as the main design criteria. (or plan on taking 2-3 ubergats)

    Beat me to it.
Know your gear better than your opponent knows his.
