OMG! How fast is to fast ?

As technology advances so do marker rates of fire will there be a line drawn and if so where ? How fast is too fast when is it too many balls per sec ? At our shop all we are asked is how fast will it shoot ? Is that the fastest one they make? Thoughts ?

I cap all my markers at 15 bps,I know of NO ONE that can run thru a stream of paint and not get hit at 15bps,all the rest is just who can shoot faster...

Personally I don't mind how fast another player is shooting. Now the problem I do have is when a player is shooting over 15 balls a second when young children or beginner are playing. I think when they are over shot the first tie playing they are less likely to come back again. I also think it's wrong and very unsportsmanlike if field speed is 15 or less and they are shooting fast or ramping.

Good point, the markers should be set to the level of the competition.
Playing against kids and new players, no need to be maxxing your loader out.
Playing in a tournament? I'm all for assisted 15bps or uncapped semi.

i say unless its amazingly hard to walk the trigger like some angles and a5s just use uncapped semi which can vary from 11bps to 18bps but thats just my opinion

I personally think anything over 5-6 bps is excessive and a waste of paint and potential injurious to players but in particular I'd just as soon have play be semi-automatic only. If you can actually pull the trigger, without software aids, as a limit I can accept that. I know there are "guys" who can reach "ungodly" high rates of fire in semi-automatic mode only, but I've never seen someone who can maintain it for as near as long as with some of the SW aids giving them a crutch. If you can do it without SW then I can accept it, one actual trigger pull = one paintball out the barrel.

    QFT --

I know of one instance where my young son was playing in a scenario game and one of my teammates had to pull my boy behind him to take the 40 incoming rounds.

I know of games where my teammates walked out with 40-50 welps.

I know I've reffed night games where a team of electro's opened up on "a noise" and all hit a guy and no one could hear or see him call out.

I know I've reffed games where young kids get hit and start crying and found themselves unable to call themselves out. (or too scared to try and call themselves out due to the rate of incoming fire)

One time I was sitting out of bounds talking with the head ref and event producer and a player leaving the chrono (I think w/ his barrel sleeve on) bumped his marker on his leg and caused his marker to go into a spasm sending 6 balls whizzing past the three of us and impacting on the CO2 hut.

I dont much care what the tourney crowds do for ROF control, but Ive always been a fan of strict ROF limits for night play especially and for games where younger players are allowed to play.

I like the rules like PBCharleston uses
    • 1 trigger pull = 1 ball. no exceptions.
    • 2 breaks on a player is fine. 3 or more breaks is unsafe and the shooter is ejected from the game.
    • I would add: 10 or more breaks on a player constitutes assault with intent and subject to criminal prosecution.

The question is: how can you control a stream of balls in the air from hitting a hidden player? at night?

If the answers is : I cant, then thats how much is too fast.

A player must be in control of his marker and responsible for his actions - In my opinion, anything else is unsafe.

I also think a field has the right to disapprove any marker they feel is unsafe, to prevent players from making their trigger too sensitive which can lead to accidental discharge. I also do not consider RT triggers as one pull = one paintball either. I have seen people set their RT triggers to unsafe levels and I've even set one for experimenting that was easily in the 20 bps range and I could hold it there. This is just as bad or worse as the markers with SW aids that allow high rates of fire with little effort.
